How to Verify a Kitchen Hardware Factory in China: 7-Point Buyer Checklist

Every year importers lose money to “factories” that are actually trading companies with a showroom. Before you wire a deposit for kitchen cabinet hardware, run this 7-point verification checklist. It takes one day and can save you a container of rust complaints.

1. Check the business scope, not just the license

Ask for the Chinese business license and check the registered scope includes manufacturing (生产/制造), not only trading (贸易). Cross-check the registered address against the factory address you are shown.

2. Ask who does the surface treatment

This is the single best filter. Most wire-product workshops outsource electroplating and polishing, which is where rust problems and batch variation come from. A real hardware factory can show you its own plating line. GST runs its own electroplating plant (since 2015), electrolytic polishing workshop (2021) and powder-coating facility (2023).

3. Inspect welds and edges on random samples

Pick products from stock, not the showroom. Welds should be full spot-welds with no scars; wire ends must be deburred; chrome should be bright with no cloudiness. Details on what to look for are in our guide to choosing 304 vs 201 stainless steel baskets.

4. Demand material certificates

For stainless steel lines, ask for mill certificates and a salt-spray test report. If a supplier quotes “stainless steel” without specifying 201, 304 or 316, treat it as 201. An in-house testing lab — like the testing company GST established in 2022 — is a strong signal.

5. Verify export history

Ask which markets they ship to and for how long, then request references or bill-of-lading samples. GST has exported since 2008 — first to the Middle East and Russia, later Iraq (2016) and Nigeria and South Africa (2018).

6. Check the QC system

ISO 9001 certification is the baseline; what matters is whether inspection records exist per batch. Ask to see the last order\u2019s QC report.

7. Test communication speed
